Jellly Belly p/b Kenda recovered well on Stage 2 to take the KOM, 2nd and 3rd on the day and Team GC.
Stage 1 was marked by extreme winds and rain, crashes, flats, and a struggle for Race Officials to communicate to teams what was happening.
That sort of setback is only fuel to the Jelly Belly fire, though, and on Stage 2 Will Routley took the KOM and finished 3rd, one place behind Mike Friedman.
Here at FOCUS USA, we're wishing the squad the best of luck for another 8 difficult stages.

There are also 3 members of Jelly p/b Kenda contesting Silver City, New Mexico's notoriously difficult Tour of the Gila this weekend, so stay tuned.

The boys showed renewed spirit in every stage at Redlands this past weekend.
They left with 3rd, 4th, and 5th on GC and 2nd in the KOM.
Will Routley was one of three who miraculously got away from a 40mph peloton on Friday and beat out Bissell's Ben Jacques-Maynes for the win.
In Saturday's ultra-dangerous crit, everyone managed to stay upright and Mike Friedman and Brad Huff finished 4th and 13th repectively.
Kiel Reijnen took 5th in the sprint at the finish of Sunset on Sunday, after aggressive attacks all day long. Nobody there or following on-line was left with any doubt as to who is the team to watch in 2010.

A lot of the legendary Redlands host housing has only room for riders and the staff stay in town at race hotels. Not so for our boys. The whole crew is at a ranch house overlooking orange groves as far as the eye can see. While the soigneurs worked under a huge tree in the front yard, wrenches John Sessa and Ralf Medlof were prepping race wheels in the stables.

If you have never been to the Redlands Bicycle Classic, treat yourself. It's easy to get to from anywhere in Southern California. It's easy to find a place to stay. You can ride the various courses easily. You'll be surprised how many great restaurants are around, and by the level of cycling hysteria. The racing is phenomenal in this 26-year-old stage race, restored to its place as first major US stage race of the year. The final day's circuit race on the legendary Sunset Loop is spectator friendly and probably the most spectacular racing you can follow from the roadside anywhere in the world.
We heard two rumors today that ought to clinch your decision, but we may not be able to talk about them yet.
If you're coming out in support of our Jelly Belly boys on their new Focus Cayo bikes with SRAM Red, RTS Carbon wheels with Kenda Tires, 3T bars and stems and posts, and fi'zi:k sexiness, let us know. We'll get something together.
Refreshments and delicious candy at least.
Maybe a ride? You'll appreciate Sunset Loop a lot more on Sunday if you ride it a couple of times on Saturday.

New Year's Day means climbing Palomar for a wide variety of Southern California cyclists. There are many routes and distances, as various clubs, shops, and teams gather for the challenge. We'll be at Lake Wohlford (really, click that link) parked opposite the Cafe at 8 and rolling at 8:30. Mother's Cafe at the top will be open so bring a few dollars for chili and coffee. This is a ride for all abilities - the mountain tends to separate people according to its own whims.

While some were braving the conditions in Bend, we also had some challenging days down in San Diego. Here is the Second Annual Campagnolo Toy Drive during a brief respite from the torrential downpour.
Focus revelled in the grit alongside Road Bike Action, Squadra, Electra, Zoot, Interbike, Sidi USA, 2XU, Pactimo, Speedplay, Sock Guy, and hearty crew of friends, all alarmingly fit.

Will the 2010 Toy Drive be held in August? Or will it remain on the calendar as critical training for Iditabike? We will see you there either way.

Chris Jones, fresh from animating much of the Tour of Missouri, initiated a break with Jamey Driscoll early on and stayed away for the one-two. Euro superstars Erwin Vervecken and Christian Heule made multiple efforts to bridge the small gap alone, and even more attempts to muster a chase. Jones and Driscoll wisely kept it full gas to the end rather than worrying about the finishing order and losing their advantage. Jonathon Page took third and the podium was rounded out by some Vegas trash. Jones, on his FOCUS Mares Team, looks set to be a podium fixture this season.
